Coppers to Crowns

About

I have been a coin collector (or numismatist!) from the age of 11, in the days of the 'old' coinage of pounds, shillings and pence (LSD). I started my hobby by collecting different year dates from change in my pocket. When I then got a Saturday job in my early teens as a 'Butcher's Boy', I was allowed to go through the shop's till at the end of the day and 'swap' for coins I needed to fill gaps. I then progressed to obtaining bags (in those day paper, not plastic bags) of coins from my bank, to sort through for coins on my 'wants list' Only in my later, retired life, have I had the time and financial resources to visit coin fairs and auctions plus online sales sites to purchase higher grade coins.

My website attempts to identify all of the major and minor British coin varieties from 1838 to 1971, from Fractional Farthings through to Crowns. Minor varieties are often only able to be identified in coins of higher grades, usually EF and above. Hopefully it can become the most comprehensive correlation of the coin references that auction houses and dealers use when listing their coins for sale.

If you should identify any errors or omissions, I would love to hear from you via the 'Contact Me' section on the site. If you have any Obverse and Reverse images of coins that I have not detailed at all on the site, I would love to receive them.

If you have an image of a coin that is showing here in grey as 'Photo Not Yet Available' and has the words 'Not Held', I would welcome receiving your images to add to the site. The images will be attributed to you.

HOWEVER - please note that I am still in the process of uploading images from third party websites and have currently completed from Quarter Farthings up to and including Silver Threepence (3d).

GRADING - Grading of coins, as every collector will know, is a very subjective exercise. With my own coin images on this website, I have tried to err on the cautious side, under, rather than over grading my coins.

UPLOADED - I have to date uploaded my own held coin images as follows:

       QF; TF; HF; CF; BF; CH; TH; GR; ST; BT; SX; SH;

PROOFS - At this stage, I have only included cased Proof Sets as these were issued and available to the public. So called VIP Proofs remain hidden from view for now, as these individual coins were not intended for public release and rarely come onto the market. As and when they do become available for public sale, I will include them on the website at that point.
